Propersound follows up a sterling run from the likes of Reedale Rise and Lerosa with a new joint from Spanish producer Alex Martin. As you would expect from this consistently on-point label, the vibe here is thoughtful hi-tek soul with lashings of plush Detroit-inspired synth work and inventive programming. As well as the starry-eyed swoon of “Asimov”, it’s worth checking Domenico Rosa’s edit of “Subrutine” – a giddy funker for the 31st Century. “Helix” takes things into deeper, techier territory without losing the snaking rhythmic variations, and “Switchback” drops things down to a mellow lull as the consummate B2 delight.
